by Eric Mast

"Liquid Agency presents 22 years of Plazm in Liquid Space, our office gallery in Portland. As part of the exhibit, we created this video of every page of every issue of Plazm, hand turned for your viewing pleasure by one of our trusty interns. E*Rock created a score. The video is looping in our gallery space. If you can't make it there, feel free to enjoy it here. Running time is just under two hours. Kick back, get a cup of coffee or another beverage of your choice, and enjoy. To learn more about Plazm or any specific content in any of the back issues, visit plazm.com."

Just a quick note: We only have 5 copies of the first pressing of the Fantastic Palace left, but I'll be out of town for a bit (starting now!) so I won't be able to ship any orders for the next 10 days or so. Hopefully we'll have the 2nd pressing in soon and Mississippi Records in Portland still has copies. Thanks!

Fantastic Palace - Early Recordings LP

by Eric Mast in

Back in 1992 I discovered FANTASTIC PALACE on a compilation on a short lived label called See Eye and have been listening to and loving it ever since. About ten years later I became friends with music writer and label guy, Mike McGonigal, and discovered he was responsible for the See Eye label. I told him what a fan I was of the music and he tracked down the band for me, which it turns out was the solo recording project of Alexander Ross (all other members it turns out were fictitious), a visual artist who had been living in New York City ever since. I was very excited to learn that an all time favorite band had even more unreleased material, so we decided to give the band its first proper vinyl issue/re-issue, which is what we have done!

Here we pair two early and very limited cassette releases of unexplainable instrumentals by FANTASTIC PALACE. It is utterly unique, and wonderful music! Sounding like good times in a Chrome universe, Wümme era Faust as a circus band, or Super Roots 6 era Boredomes trying to do covers of Byrds outtakes. Songs alternate between sunshine psychedelia and dark alien soundtracks. Even though songs are often short and experimental in nature, rather than sounding like sketches they create fully formed melodic vignettes that feel as if they've been beamed in from a neighboring dimension.

This stuff’s never been on vinyl before (though a later tape release by Ross, ‘Grandfather Paradox,’ garnered much acclaim when reissued last year). This is a joint release with Audio Dregs and Social Music. First pressing of 200 copies.
